The Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV) plans to introduce the Building Information Modelling - BIM for short - method as the standard for the planning and construction of federal trunk roads from 2025. This includes the digitalisation of all processes and the establishment of new working methods. The aim is to speed up project planning and implementation and improve infrastructure maintenance. This should ensure the long-term performance of the trunk roads and make them sustainable. In addition, modern methods will make federal trunk road construction more attractive to young professionals and skilled workers as a sustainable industry.
In order to give the project its own stage on the Internet, we were commissioned by the BMDV and Deutsche Einheit Fernstraßenplanungs und -bau GmbH (DEGES) to develop a TYPO3 website. Here, DEGES publishes information and news about the project in co-operation with the communications agency Johanssen + Kretschmer Strategische Kommunikation GmbH (JK). In addition, specialist symposia will be organised, the participant management of which will also be handled via the website.
The new site is based on TYPO3 in combination with the Bootstrap Starter Package. The package already comes with numerous content elements and a modern layout and impresses with its responsive design. In order to comply with the CI specifications of the federal government, some customised elements and styles were added, such as the slider on the homepage and the federal government's corporate font.
The "Event management and registration" extension was installed and configured for event management in TYPO3. This enables, among other things, the creation of various events and participant management in the TYPO3 backend, including the specification of the maximum number of guests and the start and end of registration. The participants themselves can then register via a data protection-compliant double opt-in procedure.
In addition to events, DEGES would of course also like to use the website to provide information about news on the BIM federal trunk roads project. To this end, a blog has been integrated into the website using the established "News System" community extension.
To track website visits, we also set up Matomo and installed it in TYPO3. This is also hosted and maintained by us. The chosen on-premise solution also ensures a high level of data security.
To enable users to object to tracking, we also configured and styled Cookiebot as a consent management solution. At the request of website visitors, this not only blocks Matomo tracking, but also the embedded YouTube videos and iFrames of external content.
The creation of the pages and events was carried out hand in hand with the communications agency JK, whereby we were able to support with numerous tips and tricks in content maintenance and layouting.
Within a month, a website was created with which DEGES and the BMDV can optimally present the BIM federal trunk roads project. The new digital communication channel also allows the client to reach the younger generation of specialists and interested parties.
The numerous available content elements allow the information pages to be customised. In the integrated blog, the customer can provide information about the latest news and developments. The extension to event management enables DEGES to quickly and easily present events on the website itself and to enable interested parties to register for digital and on-site events in an uncomplicated manner.
